In short
Without an account, this site stores nothing about you on a server beyond a visitor count that uses no cookies and keeps no IP addresses (see “Visitor statistics”). What you set — language, theme, your onboarding answers and your study plan — stays in your browser.
With an account, your BTU email address is added, plus exactly the things that are meant to sync between your devices or to be published. There is no advertising, no cross-site tracking and no sharing with third parties for advertising.

No data protection officer has been appointed; a project of this size is not required to have one.
What is stored
- Data
- Email address (@b-tu.de)
- Why, and on what basis
- Sign-in, password reset, proof of BTU affiliation. Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract).
- For how long
- Until the account is deleted.
- Data
- Password — only as a hash, never in plain text
- Why, and on what basis
- Sign-in. Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract). Your password goes from your browser straight to Supabase’s sign-in service over an encrypted connection, and never passes through this site’s own server. Supabase stores only a salted bcrypt hash of it — a one-way function the password cannot be read back out of. As the operator I can see that hash in the database but not your password, which is also why a forgotten password can only be reset, never sent to you.
- For how long
- Until you change it or delete the account.
- Data
- Display name (optional)
- Why, and on what basis
- Shown only where you set it yourself: on a review or a published study plan. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
- For how long
- Until you change it or delete the account.
- Data
- Onboarding answers (degree, programme, campus, language)
- Why, and on what basis
- Pre-filling the filters and syncing between your devices. Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- For how long
- Until the account is deleted.
- Data
- Study-plan draft (which module in which semester)
- Why, and on what basis
- Syncing between your devices. Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- For how long
- Until the account is deleted.
- Data
- Name, enrolment number, mentor — if you enter them
- Why, and on what basis
- Filling in the study-plan form. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. They are never shared or published, not even when you share a plan.
- For how long
- Until the account is deleted.
- Data
- Subscribed modules (their numbers only)
- Why, and on what basis
- Drawing your calendar, and syncing it between your devices. Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- For how long
- Until you unsubscribe or delete your account.
- Data
- Google Calendar connection: the email address and account identifier of your Google account, an encrypted refresh token, and the identifier of the calendar it created
- Why, and on what basis
- Only if you connect it yourself. It is what lets Mofi create the “BTU Mofi” calendar and keep the sessions of your subscribed modules up to date in it. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). Set out in full under “Google user data”.
- For how long
- Until you disconnect or delete your account; nothing of it is left behind afterwards.
- Data
- Module reviews (text, optional scores)
- Why, and on what basis
- Public display on the module page. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
- For how long
- Until you delete them or delete the account.
- Data
- Shared study plans and upvotes
- Why, and on what basis
- Display under the share link, and in the list if published. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
- For how long
- Until you stop sharing or delete the account.
- Data
- Reports and private messages (title, text, optionally a name and an email address)
- Why, and on what basis
- Reports appear publicly on the Issues page; private messages go to the operator alone. An email address left there is used only to notify you when the status of your report changes, is never shown publicly, and is used for nothing else. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
- For how long

- Why, and on what basis
- Counting visits and seeing which pages are needed. Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest). The IP address is used only to derive a location and a pseudonymous visit identifier, and is not stored.
- For how long
- 6 months, then deleted.
- Data
- Server logs at Supabase (IP address, time, request)
- Why, and on what basis
- Operating the service and defending against abuse. Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest).

Where the data is
The database and the sign-in service run at Supabase Inc. as a processor. The project is in region eu-west-2 — London, United Kingdom.
Since Brexit the United Kingdom is a third country under the GDPR. The transfer rests on the European Commission’s adequacy decision for the UK, backed by the standard contractual clauses in the data processing agreement with Supabase. The region name “eu-west-2” describes the data-centre operator’s own geography, not the European Union.
The static pages themselves — module pages, search index, images — are delivered by a hosting provider, which necessarily processes IP addresses in doing so.
Visitor statistics
To see how many people use Mofi and which pages are needed, the site counts visits with Umami. The provider is Umami Software, Inc., 28 Geary St, Suite 650 #243, San Francisco, California, USA. Umami processes the data as a processor under a data processing agreement; the account is in Umami Cloud’s EU region.
Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It recognises a visit by a hash of IP address, browser identifier and a random value that changes regularly; the IP address itself is not stored. Only the path of a page is sent, never its query string — so the link to a shared study plan never reaches Umami.
Because Umami is a US company and uses subprocessors, data may reach the USA. That transfer rests on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses (Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/914), which form part of the data processing agreement. Which subprocessors Umami uses is stated in their continuously updated list: umami.is/subprocessors ↗
You can object at any time (Art. 21 GDPR): with “Do Not Track” switched on in your browser nothing is counted, and an ad or content blocker prevents it too. Because the statistics do not recognise you, no single entry can be traced back to a person either — so access or erasure is not possible there (Art. 11 GDPR).
What stays in your browser
This site sets no cookies, with one exception: connecting Google Calendar sets a strictly necessary cookie that serves only that one step and expires after ten minutes. The visitor statistics store nothing in your browser either. Otherwise the site uses only your browser’s local storage, for: language and theme, your onboarding answers, your study-plan draft, the details for the form, and — once signed in — your session token.
None of it leaves your browser as long as you have no account. You can clear it at any time through your browser’s site data; the account itself is deleted in account settings.
Anonymous reviews
A review can be published without a name. It is then anonymous in the database, not merely on screen: the column linking a review to an account carries no read privilege for any client — signed in or out, through the website or through the API. It exists only inside the database, where its job is to let you edit or delete your own review later.
The same holds for published study plans. As the operator I do have administrative access to the database and can therefore see that link — that cannot be arranged otherwise, and it belongs in writing here rather than left unsaid.
Google Calendar
This connection exists only if you make it yourself, in Settings. Without it nothing is sent to Google and no Google user data is processed at all. The legal basis is your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; the application is called “BTU Mofi” where Google names it.
Mofi asks for exactly one calendar permission: access to calendars Mofi itself created. In practice that means Mofi creates a calendar of its own, “BTU Mofi”, and can edit only that one. Your other appointments are technically out of reach for Mofi — that is the boundary of the permission granted, not a promise about how it is used. Mofi does not read, search or analyse your calendars.
What is sent to Google is the session data of the modules you subscribed to — titles, times, rooms, lecturers — as BTU publishes it. That is public information from the module catalogue rather than personal data about you, though which modules you subscribed to does follow from the selection. For that data Google is a controller in its own right — Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (for users in the EEA), and Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA — and Google’s own privacy terms apply in addition.
Google user data: access, use, storage, sharing
When you connect, Mofi asks Google for exactly the following permissions (“scopes”), and no others:
openidReturns Google’s stable account identifier (“sub”). It is the key the connection is stored under; without it there would be no way to say which Google account belongs to which Mofi account.
emailReturns the email address of the connected Google account. It is used for one thing only: showing you in Settings which account is connected.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.app.createdGrants access only to calendars this application itself created. It is what lets Mofi create the “BTU Mofi” calendar and add, change and remove the sessions of your subscribed modules in it — and nothing else.
From those permissions Mofi receives and stores three things: Google’s account identifier (“sub”), the email address of the Google account, and a refresh token, which is what lets the sync run when you do not have the site open. Alongside them sit the identifier of the calendar Mofi created, the list of permissions you granted, and the time the connection was made. Nothing further is retrieved — no name, no profile picture, no contacts, no files and no content from any other calendar.
It is used only for the feature you granted it for: creating and keeping up to date the “BTU Mofi” calendar, and showing you in Settings which Google account is connected. There is no further use — no advertising, no profiling, no training of AI or machine-learning models, no analytics and no enrichment of other data.
It is stored in the database at Supabase (see “Where the data is”), in a table of its own that no browser and no signed-in client can reach: every privilege is revoked from the client roles, row level security is enabled with no policy at all, and only the server itself touches it. Within that table the refresh token is additionally encrypted with AES-256-GCM, under a key held only by the server — so a copy of the database on its own yields no usable Google credentials. For each sync the server asks Google for a short-lived access token, and does not store it.
No calendar content is stored here at all. The sessions are assembled afresh at each sync from BTU’s public module catalogue and sent to Google; the server additionally reads what is already in the “BTU Mofi” calendar in order to work out the difference — and that listing is discarded the moment the sync ends, never reaching any table. What sits on the server is the numbers of the modules you subscribed to, not their sessions, and no event from any other calendar.
Google user data is shared with nobody. It is not sold, not transferred to advertising platforms, data brokers or any third party, and not disclosed for any purpose outside this feature. The only party involved is Supabase, the processor running the database the connection sits in. As the operator I do have administrative access to that database; I can see the connected Google address and the calendar identifier there, but I read rows only where it is necessary to fix a fault or to deal with abuse, and the token is encrypted even there.
The connection is kept for as long as it exists. “Disconnect” in Settings deletes the “BTU Mofi” calendar in your Google account, revokes the token at Google and deletes the row here — in that order, and the row is deleted either way. Deleting your Mofi account removes the row as well. After that no Google user data is left behind. You can also withdraw the access directly at Google at any time, independently of this site: myaccount.google.com/permissions ↗
If any of that cannot be done in Settings, or you want it confirmed that no Google user data for your account remains, an email is enough: khakisai@b-tu.de.
Limited use of Google user data
BTU Mofi’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Concretely, that undertaking means:
- The data is used only to provide and improve the feature you granted it for and that is visible in the interface: the calendar sync.
- The data is not transferred to or sold to third parties — in particular not to advertising platforms, data brokers or information resellers.
- The data is not used for advertising of any kind, including retargeting, personalised or interest-based advertising, and not for credit assessment or lending.
- The data is not used to train AI or machine-learning models, and is not transferred to anyone for that purpose.
- No human reads the data unless you give explicit consent, it is necessary for security or to meet a legal obligation, or the data has been aggregated and anonymised.
Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). Any consent you have given can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future.
You do not have to ask anyone for erasure: “Delete account” in account settings immediately and permanently removes your account together with your preferences, study plans, shared plans, upvotes and reviews. Of all of that there is no recovery and no copy left behind.
Reports on the Issues page are the exception: they describe the site rather than you, and deleting your account only removes the link between the two. If you left an email address there for notifications, it stays until you ask for it to be erased — an email is enough.
For anything else, an email to khakisai@b-tu.de is enough.
Right to complain
You may also complain to a supervisory authority. The competent one here is the Data Protection Commissioner of Brandenburg (Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und für das Recht auf Akteneinsicht Brandenburg), Stahnsdorfer Damm 77, 14532 Kleinmachnow, Germany.
Changes
If what is stored changes, or where it is stored changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.
For Google user data that is not enough: if how Mofi handles it changes, everyone who has connected a Google Calendar is notified beforehand by email to their BTU address, before the change takes effect. Where the new processing needs consent, consent is asked for again, and until then the previous handling stands. You can disconnect at any time in Settings.

Welche Unterauftragnehmer Umami einsetzt, steht in der laufend aktualisierten Liste: umami.is/subprocessors ↗
Was im Browser bleibt
Nichts davon verlässt deinen Browser, solange du kein Konto hast.
Google-Nutzerdaten: Zugriff, Verwendung, Speicherung, Weitergabe
BTU Mofi’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
