HydroEurope is an intensive course focused on collaborative engineering. International teams composed with participants from several academic partners (France, Spain, UK, Poland, Germany and Belgium) work collaboratively remotely through Internet and face-to-face on a case study where a variety of hydroinformatics tools has to be applied and used. Data from catchments and flash floods from six European countries are provided on top of which simulation models for runoff, free-surface and groundwater-flow are to be set-up for solving a complex engineering project. The objective is to study run-off at normal and flood situations, to analyse risk and damage potential of an extreme flood in rural and city areas and to develop a concept for situation improvement. Team-working through the Web will be complemented by a two week phase when all teams are working together face-to-face including field trips and presentations from local authorities and international experts.
