Lernergebnisse
After successful participation the students are able to distinguish the physical properties of compressible and incompressible fluid flows. They have understood the governing equations, relevant phenomena, and control parameters, and they are able to perform a quantitative analysis of simple problems. In the exercise the students apply theoretical concepts to sample problems in order to develop analytical and numerical problem-solving skills.

- Nondimensional numbers
- Sound speed and propagation
- Flow regimes
- Basics of aerostatics
- Isentropic, barotropic, and polytropic flows
- State change with entropy change
- Steady compressible flows
- Unsteady compressible flows
- Stationary and propagating shocks

Empfohlene Voraussetzungen
Basic knowledge of continuum mechanics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics is an asset.
Prüfungsmodalitäten
Oral examination, approx. 40 minutes
